SOMALI-born international supermodel Iman says she wants to “give back to Africa” and has partnered with another supermodel, Nigerian-born Oluchi Onweagba, and M-Net to bring about the upcoming Face of Africa model search.

Arguably the world’s first black supermodel, Iman Mohamed Abdulmajid will supply the competition with her range of make-up, Iman Cosmetics.

“Now is the time for you, the next generation of beautiful, talented African women, to make your mark on the modelling industry and the world. Iman Cosmetics is proud to be associated with M-Net’s Face of Africa,” she said in a statement.

The winner will spend a day with Iman in New York, and Onweagba’s Cape Town-based O Model Africa agency will sponsor a modelling contract.

Megan Kruger, co-owner of O Model Africa, said there was a chance Iman would be in Africa for the finale.

M-Net Africa director Biola Alabi said: “ Iman i s an icon for African women. I’m delighted she has aligned her purpose with ours.”

The new series will appear on South African screens on October 31, and the finale takes place in Lagos, Nigeria, in February next year - The Times
