Selimathunzi's Brown is gone...

I walk into the office today and hear that Brown Matsime, the guy that had that painfully husky voice on Selimathunzi has passed away.
I honestly didn't know, well that could also be that I have not watched TV, heard anything on radio and the clip I read was so small, I doubt people even read it.
But yes, the man is gone. And the fact that I have not heard anything lingers the thoughts and curious quesstions of what had he been up since he left the show? where was he all along? And why haven't we seen anything on Selimathunzi about his passing? Is it a case of out of sight out of mind? What is happening with the entertainment industry, what happened to all entertainers supporting each other even when they are down? What happened to the Ubuntu? Yah be, Brown boet, you were such a funny fella that knew what to say when it was needed.
May his soul rest in peace.

THE death of former Selimathunzi presenter Brown Matsime will leave a void in the hip-hop and rap culture, hip-hop star M’olemi said yesterday.

M’olemi, real name Motlapele Morule, described Matsime as an extraordinary individual.

“I knew Brown in 1996 when we were still in high school. He was a big shot in a small town. He was a big influence since he was on radio and TV,” said the hip-hop star.

He said when the husky-voiced Matsime moved to Johannesburg they did not communicate often.

“I heard that he was sick.

“I am saddened by the news and I am sure the other guys in the hip-hop and rap movement will feel the same,” he said.

Matsime died of an undisclosed illness on Saturday, three days after he was admitted to the Pretoria West Hospital.

He joined Selimathunzi in 1998 until he was fired last year for repeatedly failing to pitch for work.

Molemi said Matsime had formed a rock ’n roll band and had a big hand in putting Mafikeng on the map musically.

Matsime is survived by his wife Boitumelo and his daughter Bronwyn. - Sowetan
