L'Oreal gives back to disadvantaged communities

COSMETICS giant L’Oréal is turning 100 and for their birthday, they are starting initiatives to support 100 disadvantaged communities in 65 countries.
L’Oréal, which counts US actresses Jane Fonda, Eva Longoria, Keri Washington and local Generations actress Connie Ferguson and Tsotsi star Terry Phetho among its spokeswomen, announced yesterday that it has begun its campaign in countries including Germany, Singapore, Lebanon, Korea, Morocco and South Africa.
After raking in 17.5-billion EUROS in sales last year, the South African branch of L’Oréal is working with businessman Cyril Ramaphosa’s Adopt a School project to support poor pupils in Lawley, south of Johannesburg.
It plans to build three Grade R classrooms, a kitchen, a sickbay and toilets for Lawley Primary which has 1318 pupils.
Ferguson was in tears during the thank-you speeches of three of the school’s pupils and told The Times how moved she was to hear “children from a disadvantaged school speak so fluently, and of their dedication to keep learning despite the conditions.”
