Two band pull out on COKE FEST at the last hour

If you were planning to go to the Coke Fest for bands The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus and Bullet for my Valentine, then you have to know they have cancelled on all their fans. But fear not because you can still have a fabulous time at the concert with Panic at the Disco, Snow Patrol and Oasis will be there. And rumour has it that Panic at the Disco will be bring a surprise element of a great basketball player. If you not a subscriber to The Times, then here I link the story so you can know more about who will be at the concert and how you can get a refund for your money if you are sad to not have the two bands. My theory is that those two are not that big in this country anyway so come through and have a ball while you at it.

Disgruntled concert goers refunded after top bands’ last minute pull-out

TWO international bands have pulled out of this weekend’s My Coke Fest concert at the 11th hour — to the ire of fans who paid top dollar for the event.

Welsh band Bullet for my Valentine and US band The Red Jump Apparatus have decided to pull out of the 12 -hour rock festival — only two days before it opens in Johannesburg. Tickets cost between R300 and R600.

Crystal Aerts, 21, from Johannesburg, said she would not attend the event because she particularly wanted to see the Welsh band.

“I’m very, very disappointed because Bullet for my Valentine is one of my favourite bands in the whole world. I bought my ticket just to watch them,” she said.

Yesterday, Matthew Austin was refunded his golden circle ticket, which cost R600.

“The only reason I had bought the ticket was to see the two bands that pulled out. Getting my money back was a mission — it took 45 minutes, a lot of arguing and signing of forms . It is no longer worth it for me to go to the show,” he said.

And Caro Wood, 24, said the concert organisers “should make tickets a bit cheaper” for those who will still attend.

A spokesman for the organisers, Big Concerts’ Attie v an Wyk, said the organisers were also devastated by the cancellation of the bands, and that disgruntled customers would be refunded.

“Not only have they [the bands] not fulfilled their agreements with us, they have let their South African fans down . And all at the last minute, leaving us in an unfortunate position of not being able to find suitable replacements at such short notice ,” said Van Wyk.

Both bands were scheduled to perform at what is considered one of South Africa’s biggest rock festivals this weekend in Johannesburg and Cape Town, along with megastars Oasis, Snow Patrol, Panic at the Disco and South African bands Dirty Skirts, Zebra and Giraffe, Cassette and One Day Remains.

Van Wyk would not reveal how much the organisers have coughed up in refunds.

The US rock band Red Jumpsuit Apparatus said “no tour manager [was available] to come to South Africa” and Bullet for my Valentine cited “studio commitments to complete their new album”.

“We had already paid the bands in full, and booked their flights and accommodation, and they will have to refund us for all that money lost,” said Van Wyk.

“This would not be the first time we experience a last-minute cancellation … years ago, R&B singer R Kelly cancelled on us due to the death of his friend Aaliyah.

“Then we had the dramatic change of rapper Snoop Dogg, who was [arrested on assault charges] at London’s Heathrow Airport.

“But the show must go on,” said Van Wyk.

Johannesburg and Cape Town concert-goers have the option until Friday April 17 to be refunded in full by producing their tickets.
