Another Idols wannabe bites the dust...

Shock waves ripped through the Idols studio at M-Net tonight when Daniel Baron was sent home. Daniel, the popular Head Boy of De La Salle College, was a clear audience favourite in the Mosaïek Teatro in Sunday night’s Top 9 Spectacular and his fans lifted the roof when he performed “Save The Last Dance For Me”. But that wasn’t enough to save him from elimination.

At the start of tonight’s Results Show it looked like Lendel would be in the firing line. This week four of the five radio stations in the nationwide poll of South Africa’s top commercial radio stations had the same prediction. Ofm in Bloemfontein, the Western Cape’s KFM, Jacaranda FM in Gauteng and Durban’s East Coast Radio all said this would be Lendel week to pack his bags. Only in the Eastern Cape did the listeners of Algoa Fm predict that it might be the end of Thembi.

“Let’s hope that’s not how they voted!” a nervous Lendel laughed. But what did the Idols judges think? Randall thought Pixie and Sasha Lee would struggle for votes. Mara worried about Daniel and Lendel. Gareth thought a guy would go, and predicted it would be Daniel. Dave also thought the ladies were better than the guys this week, but he thought Thembi would have to go.

Daniel admitted to Liezel that the judges’ opinions came as a bit of a shock, but it turned out they knew what they were talking about - Sunday night was indeed Daniel’s last dance…
