Radio-show host Lupi Ngcayisa buying his 50pairs as his
contribution to his project to collect 9000 pairs of school shoes.METRO FM breakfast show co-host Lupi Ngcayisa wanted school shoes for his birthday — lots of them.
The radio personality has embarked on a drive to provide shoes to 9000 schoolchildren.
Ngcayisa asked for shoes in lieu of presents for his birthday two weeks ago. About 2000 pairs of shoes have been donated.
“I always get expensive gifts from my friends, but this year I decided to make 9000 school children happy when they go back to school by getting them brand new school shoes.”
The initiative stemmed from Ngcayisa’s experiences as an impoverished student.
“I know what it’s like to go back to school without shoes; that makes you not look forward to going back. I hope that I can change that and give to the poorest schools of South Africa,” Ngcayisa said.
He identified the schools in need of shoes. Each province will receive 1000 pairs.
