ICYMI: WHO WON AT THE 11th SAFTAs

And this weekend, this theory was proved at the 11th South African Film and Television Awards where some of the local favourite shows were left empty handed when 181 judging panelists opted for "quality over quantity”. According to legendary actor and playwright Dr John Kani, who is one of the overall head judges of the awards alongside actor Jerry Mofokeng and film producer Firdoze Bulbulia, said when picking the nominees for this year’s awards they dealt with “honesty in pursuit of excellence”. “It’s very difficult for us to pick who will be the deserving winner so we had to leave it to the auditors. ANELE GOES TO PRIME TIME

 Anele's talkshow moves to prime time slot. PICTURE: Jurgen Marx AFTER clinching a South African Film and Television Award as Best Talkshow Host last weekend, it’s clear SABC3 is waking up to Anele Mdoda’s talkshow’s popularity as they push it to prime time slot. The show, Real Talk with Anele which premiered on 21st July 2016, is a daytime variety talk show that sees 32-year-old Mdoda featuring social commentary on current, cultural and lifestyle topics, as well as entertaining interviews with some of SA and international celebs, entertainers and sporting figures including Minnie Dlamini, Robert Marawa, Fikile Mbalula and Trevor Noah. Broadcast from Monday to Friday 16:00 – 17:00 on SABC 3, the show’s producers Cheeky Media’s Yusuf Stevens last week confirmed that the show will be moved to 5pm slot starting from April 3, meaning Mdoda’s show will swap with Afternoon Express which will occupy the 4pm slot from next month.  And Real Talk with Anele will als...

Founded by the National Film and Video Foundation, the nominee announcement which happened on Thursday morning in Bryanston saw local film and television personalities clapping and at times sighing at the nominees that were announced, with Kani even expressing that the awards should “reflect the population demographics of the country”. ANELE MDODA TO LIGHT UP BREAKFAST

Radio and television personality adds breakfast host to her impressive resume. PICTURE: Primedia RADIO personality  ANELE Mdoda will become the first South African woman to take over a commercial breakfast show, after this morning she was announced to be taking over 947 breakfast show. Beginning her new role in April, Mdoda will take over  Darren Simpson's 13 year long slot, after he had spent 18 years in the radio industry. Mdoda who's worked on the station's afternoon drive for five years said she was " honoured to take on the challenge of the breakfast show".  "My first big radio break was at 947 and I am thankful to management for believing in me and giving me this opportunity. The station, and the breakfast show in particular, is home to radio royalty with personalities like   Darren Simpson, who has continued to evolve the breakfast show and create radio magic. Euphonik joins 947. PICTURE: euphonik.dj Top house DJ, Euphonik   has joined forces with 947 for a total sound takeover each weekend, hosting an exciting new show, eUNITE with Euphonik , starting this Sunday, September 18 th , between 18h00-20h00 .  This comes after the DJ along with DJ Milkshake confirmed they would be leaving commercial station 5MF just last week. In addition to this slot,  Euphonik will also kick start the weekend with a mix on the Afternoon Drive with Anele Mdoda just after 18h00 each Friday. Certainly no stranger to radio fans, Euphonik has been on the air for the last decade, initially with a gig at YFM and later joining 5FM. PICTURE: Mzansi Magic After attending nineteen beautiful weddings and ushering couples to their blissful union in Season 6 of Our Perfect Wedding, Thembisa Mdoda will go on break from the 29 th   of May and will return   Sunday, 10 July 2016. The vivacious presenter has been shooting with the show non-stop since taking over from Tumi Morake and will be going on a short vacation to recharge.  “After so many amazing episodes, I’m honoured that South   Africans still appreciate seeing me on their screens, as we celebrate the love and beautiful weddings of the various couples.   I have decided to take some time off to regroup and gear-up for more exciting weddings to come.
