GUPTAS COULD LOSE MILLIONS FOR CANNING JLO
UNLESS JLo agrees to postponement of the Gupta soiree, then the
Guptas could lose the millions used to reserve the singer.
Yesterday
Gupta owned channel ANN7 yesterday announced that they are postponing the South
African of the Year Awards which were to honour locals who have done well each
year.
This was to be their third awards where names such as DJ Black Coffee,
sports stars Caster Semenya and Wayde van Niekerk were some of the people the
audiences of that channel could vote for.
"ANN7
announces that the South African of the Year (SATY) Awards 2016 will be
postponed until 2017. A new date will be announced in due course. The postponement is due to unforeseen
regulatory circumstances that have materially impacted on logistics for the
event. Regretfully this has left us with no choice but to seek a new date in
the near future. We look forward to confirming a rescheduled date," read
the short statement.
The
awards which were to happen on November 25, with Bonang
Matheba, Jonathan Boynton-Lee and Jeannie D as their hosts had also booked
Blurred Lines crooner Robin Thicke as part of their lineup.
Concert promoter Mike Fuller of Famous Concerts, said he
wasn't sure if the channel had secured the Jennie from the Block singer but
mentioned that "on the norm if the cancellation is from the organiser they
stand to lose their fees".
"If
the local people cancel and there is no legitimate reason, then you forfeit the
money. They require that payments are made in advance because that is for them
to set that date aside for your event and if you don't honour it then you
forfeit the money.
"Jennifer
Lopez costs a lot of money she is one of the top earning female performers
according to Forbes alongside Taylor Swift, Adele and Beyonce and she is a
triple effect as she acts, dances and sings, so she is rather pricey,"
said Fuller. - article was published in The Times (09/11/2016)
