South Africa really wants to see MJ's This Is It Flick

Ster-Kinekor Theatres (SK) has broken all previous pre-sale ticket records for a film release in South Africa. With over 18 000 tickets sold to date for Michael Jackson THIS IS IT, and still 8 days to go before Ster-Kinekor starts showing this highly anticipated film from 28 October along with cinemas globally, it is expected that this number will be surpassed.

Only a few tickets are still left over for the official South African premieres of the film, exclusive to Ster-Kinekor Theatres. These events will take place in Johannesburg (SK Fourways), Durban (SK Gateway), Cape Town (Cavendish Square) and Pretoria (SK Sterland). Each will have a live satellite link to the Los Angeles-premiere of THIS IS IT, and will also include plenty of other thrills to make this an iconic Michael Jackson-experience like no other!

Ster-Kinekor Group Marketing Executive Michael Bender says, “Considering that we have already doubled the previous record of 7 500 pre-sales at local cinemas, and that we still have a two-week showing of THIS IS IT after the premiere, I am convinced that we will exceed this number and set the benchmark for others to follow in the future. What is even more remarkable is that these pre-sales prove that the cinema experience is still a viable entertainment option to escape the recession.
More importantly, it proves that Michael Jackson is a legend and will always be the King of Pop!”
Following the 2am- premieres of Michael Jackson THIS IS IT on 28 October, the film then starts showing at Ster-Kinekor Theatres nationwide for a special, limited two week-release (normal show times & ticket prices apply).
All Ster-Kinekor cinemas will join the worldwide release of the film to celebrate the pop icon’s life and work - including a Celebratory Wall at selected cinemas. Personal messages left by fans will be collected by Ster-Kinekor Theatres for a bound album to be sent to the Jackson family, in acknowledgment of the contributions he made to Africa.
