Newly crowned Miss Teen South Africa, Chante Jantjies, from Centurion, near Pretoria, says she is "inspired by ANC stalwart Walter Sisulu".
Jantjies scooped the title, beating 11 contestants from around South Africa, on Saturday at Sun City's Valley of the Waves.Judges of the pageant included Isidingo actress Hlubi Mboya, Miss SA Tatum Keshwar, Miss SA 1998 Sonia Raciti and organiser Wendy Futcher.
Lucky Mthembu, of Pietermaritzburg, and Justine Cardoso, of Randburg were crowned first and second princess respectively.
Chante, 16, told The Times: "I am inspired by Walter Sisulu for his humanity. He did so much for this country and yet he remained humble.
"I think that is one of the greatest qualities a person or a leader could possess.
"Even though he has passed on, his legacy will always live on and I am going to leave behind my own legacy," she said.
T he Grade 11 pupil at Ly ttleton Manor High School, in Centurion, walked away with prizes worth more than R200000, including clothing from Cameroon, a bursary from Varsity College and a holiday from Sun International .
"It was great competing and all the ladies should remember that everyone is a winner.
"I have achieved one of my dreams."
