The MetroFM Awards 2008
The Metro FM Music Awards are always FUN.
Last year it was PE and this year it was down the traffic filled highway in PTA.
There I was driving for 30minutes to get to a gig, which moi never does, even if I was going to be paid to go. I had a map plus the directions in the car, so there I was with my girl Zinhle, I call her Paris and she calls me Nicole.... Chessy I know but we as thick as thieves like Miss Paris and Nicole Richie back in the days of The Simple Life. LOL.
Any hooo, it tunred out that the event was actually quite close to the offramp into PTA so I was happy. The pits was when we had to park in the dirty makeshift parking that was arranged at the gig, so much for being early cause we ended up parking so far.
There we were doing last minute touch ups, getting into our 2-minute-shoes and ready to bundubash our way to the black carpet (Metros Red Carpet). I call these shoes, 2-minute shoes because they were made to be walked in for exactly that long. I know all sistas own a pair of those so I have no shame in talking about them like that. We looked smashing if I may say so myself. Getting into the VIP entrance was a breeze but realising that my shoes were filled with dust, was the uncoolest thing ever. But hey, like a good girl I had a pack of tissues, to sort that out.
In the venue, we chose seast where we could see everyone enter, and man was everyone H.O.T. But ofcoarse there were those few that wore their Matric Dance/ Wedding/ Graduation dresses that always seem to catch the eye, leaving you in a rather disturbing stare. LOL!
The gig started in African Time as usual, unlike the 18h00 that was on the invite, it commenced at 21h00, talk about late! With great goodies to chow on in the packages that we found on the seats it was not such a big deal that it was late.
I think most of celebville was there from the A-Grades, to the Z-Grades of that world.
Plus everyone managed to look good except for those few part poopers that thought wearing their promo Ts and nasty gears was fashionably different.
It was hilarious seeing that award winners Jazeel Brothers and Rhythmic Elements showed up in the same groom-detailed creamy/gold suits, what a fashion faux pas that was.
I also gots to give it up to the host Melanie Bala nee Son, who was ravishing in her changed outfits like that yellow dress and a red dress. Others that looged great was R&B BantuSoul, singer/DJ Unathi Nkanyi (who got a bit emotional when she won an award), Lupi Ngcayisa and socialite Uyanda Mbuli.
As for Miss Khanyi Mbau changing outfits three times, what less did we expect from her?
And what was with all the woman having blonde streaks in their black weaves? That is so 90’s, Nhlanhla Nciza, Bonang Methabe and many Pretorians shared that hair-do, how depressing that must have been....
As for the performances, I have to give it up to the METRO FM organisers, cause those were smashing but KB needs to go back to the drawing board cause that “Moferefere” song is nauseating....
Apart from the glits, glam, the scandals, the beauties and beasts of the night, the show was a blast. I know I had FUN cause I only left PTA at 4am that night.
