SINGER and songwriter,
Shekhinah Donnell has signed a deal with Sony Music Entertainment Africa after
months of working independently on collaborations with several artists.
Known for her collaborative hit Back-To-The-Beach, which she features Kyle Deutsch, the 22-year-old announced the
news this morning on her social media – vowing to fans that she’d be “releasing
an album”.
“Finally, the results inevitably here will be rosey.
“Happy to say were in motion and its time to snatch peoples wigs and grills PS:
thanks everyone for their patience and support my album is on its way,” she
wrote.
The vocalist first blew into the
limelight when she auditioned for singing reality show Idols South Africa eighth season in 2012 with a rendition of Lauryn
Hill’s Cant take My Eyes of You. She only made it to the top six of the competition with its ultimate winner announced as Khaya
Mthethwa that year.
She resurfaced in 2015 when she
collaborated with Deutsch in the hit that won the pair Best Pop and
Alternative song at the 2016 MTV Africa Music Awards. She has also collaborated
with Durban
producer Sketchy Bongo in his song Let
You Know and also worked with world renowned DJ Black Coffee for his hit Your Eyes which was released last year.
Back to the Beach was also been nominated for Best Collaboration at the 22nd South African Music Awards and for Best Single for the 15th MetroFM Music Awards.
