FROM calling South Africa a “crime ridden mess”
to a “dangerous mess” while also slating
Judge Thokozile Masipa as a “total moron” – real estate tycoon Donald Trump
can’t seem to cut the country any slack.
On Monday night, the 68-year-old Trump Towers
owner went on another negative Twitter rant just two years after he referred to
the country as “one of the most beautiful countries” on his show The Apprentice.
“As I have
long been saying, South Africa is a total - and very dangerous - mess. Just
watch the evening news (when not talking weather),” wrote Trump.
This comes after the widespread xenophobic
attacks that have been broadcast all over the world. But it wasn’t a first time
he called the country a “mess” as he did on 14 December 2013, just days after
the passing of former President Nelson Mandela.
Then he wrote: “I really like Nelson Mandela but South Africa is a
crime ridden mess that is just waiting to explode-not a good situation for the
people!”
It seems he’s had a change of heart since the broadcasting of
season six of his show All-Star Celebrity
Apprentice – where he was working alongside South African Tourism North
America’s president Sthu Zungu, in a show titled “Are you my Zulu dancing
man?”.
For the eighth episode, Trump assigns two teams of
celebrities to “design an interactive South African Tourism Expo” as a weekly
challenge.
In his opening introduction Trump says,
“There’s another very special place it’s called South Africa, one of the most
beautiful countries in the world” – a segment he presents alongside two SA
Tourism representatives Zungu and her colleague only known as Evelyn.
For the task, team Power, which comprised of
model Brande Roderick, rapper Lil Jon, singer Trace Adkins and Marilu Henner
were tasked to showcase the “adventure package” of the country using elements
of camping, shark cage diving, zip lining, surfing and golfing. The other team,
Plan B, with actress Lisa Rinna, actor Gary Busey and magician Penn Jillette
were assigned the “romantic package” where they had to showcase the food, art,
dance, wines and spas of the country.
Although Busey, who claims he has filmed in
South Africa bashed Johannesburg saying: “When I was over there filming they
put us up in Johannesburg, I heard people were being murdered”. Trumps main
judge George Ross jumps in to defend the country saying: “It's very safe, it's
very nice, we've been to Johannesburg and the people are delightful”.
In a press release promoting the show in the
same year it aired, Trump is quoted referring to South Africa as “an amazing
destination”.
“This episode will highlight the magnificence
of the country, and I will be going to South Africa soon – it’s one of my
favourite places,” read Trumps statement.
There is no telling if Trump has been in the
country, but South Africans refused to let him get away with his negative
utterance as they lashed back criticising his hair and his country the USA.
Businessman Dr Richard Nel of Gate Investment
Group tweeted: “@realDonaldTrump don’t believe the news, just 5min of fame
propaganda. The worst places in South Africa is safer than most parts of New
York”.
Selimathunzi presenter Lunga Shabalala wrote:
“Will that be before or after the story of another cop taking a life on an
unarmed black male?”
Another Jacques Maree wrote: “Speaking of a
total and dangerous mess, aren't you due for a haircut?”
