Locally the track was done with the direction of Lindelani Mkhize
and Oskido with the sound engineering of Richard Mitchell using the voices of
locals including Kurt Darren, Thandiswa Mazwai, Mafikizolo, PJ Powers,
Mahotella Queens, Joyous Celebration and Loyiso Bala. It also features
musicians from Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Nigeria, Kenya, Cameroon and Tanzania such as Tiwa Sawage,
Banky W, Diamond and Lizha James.
Said
organisers of the awards: “It is a collaboration called Africa Against Ebola
and Xenophobia and is a demonstration of the beautiful music that Africans can
make when we work together.”
This
will be the third time the song has been done to raise awareness, with the
original being done as a sign of solidarity from the USA standing for Africa
featuring over 50 US singers such as Stevie Wonder, Bruce Springsteen and Diana
Ross in 1985.
The second version was released for Haiti in 2010 featuring just
over 100 musicians such as Justin Bieber, Wyclef Jean and Pink - making the
African collaboration the biggest by far.
