OSCAR winning actress Lupita Nyong’o’s stolen Academy Awards dress has resurfaced after the original thief allegedly threw the dress over the balcony to an accomplice waiting below.
The pearly Calvin Klein dress that Nyong'o wore to the prestigious annual Oscars was dumped after the thief discovered that the pearls on the dress were fake, the thief returned it and even gave the police a courtesy call telling them where they could find it.
He thief told gossip site TMZ all about his tactics, revealing details of when he took the dress, how he bypassed all the security cameras and later placing dress into a garment bag before giving it back.
"He had taken the dress from Lupita’s hotel room after he noticed the door was ajar. He said he and others took two pearls off the dress and took them to the garment district in downtown LA where they were told the pearls weren’t real." The thief says he decided to take the dress back to the hotel.
Even though the thief thought the dress with its 6 000 fake pearls was not worth stealing, it’s actually worth US$150 000 (about R1.76 million). Calvin Klein could not be more thrilled that the dress has been returned, deciding to have it "restored and archived, as it now represents an important moment for the brand". - report by Marie Claire/ TMZ
